The Department of Chicano/Latino Studies at UC Irvine provides undergraduate and graduate students with the opportunity to examine and gain a deep understanding of the historical and contemporary experiences of Americans of Latina/o/x origin or ancestry from a variety of scholarly perspectives (i.e., history, literature, political science, psychology, public health, sociology). Our curriculum is designed to provide an awareness, knowledge, and appreciation of the language, history, culture, literature, and creative (art, dance, drama, film, music) accomplishments of Chicano/Latino communities.

Our department is proud to offer undergraduates a B.A. degree in Chicano/Latino Studies, an undergraduate minor, our certificate program, and our graduate programs which consist of our Graduate Emphasis, UC-CUBA (to promote scholarly study of Cuba by scholars in the United States) and PRIME-LC (to provide training for medical students in treating Latina/o/x patients).
