The Honors Program in Chicano/Latino Studies is designed to allow undergraduates to pursue independent research and write an honors thesis on topics of their choice under the guidance of Chicano/ Latino Studies faculty members. Research Projects typically involve a combination of library research, data analysis, and field research.

Eligibility

  • The program is open to all senior level Chicano/Latino Studies majors.
  • Grade point average of 3.3 or better overall, with a 3.5 average in Chicano/ Latino Studies courses (at least five courses).
  • Prior completion of or concurrent enrollment in the following courses is strongly recommended:
    • Chicano/Latino Studies 101 (Research in the Latino Community)
    • Chicano/Latino Studies 102W (Chicano/Latino Research Seminar) 

Requirements:

  1. Enrollment in Chicano/Latino Studies H190A-B-C
  2. Completion of an honors thesis with a Chicano/Latino Studies Faculty member.

How to Find a Research Advisor for your Honors Thesis or Independent Research:

  1. Review the CHLAT Core Department Faculty list and connect with faculty of interest through office hours or email
  2. Request time to discuss Faculty's research and potential opportunities to work with them on your honors thesis or independent research
  3. If needed, utilize the SSARC for consultation on finding a research advisor

Senior Year - Winter
Senior Year - Spring
Connect with a Chicano/Latino Studies professor willing to serve as your research project advisor and prepare an abstract. Enroll in Chic/Lat H190A and write a proposal. Field work for the project may begin during this quarter.
Begin or continue your research by enrolling in Chc/Lat H190B. 

Enroll in Chc/Lat H190C and complete a senior honors thesis.

Graduate with Honors in Chicano/Latino Studies.
